Vimy Flight Coming to an End

admincopa

The Vimy Flight cross-Canada tour finished the cross-country part of its educational adventure with a flourish last weekend.

Two Nieuport 11 aircraft flew over the stadium at a Calgary Stampeders game before returning to the grass strip at Indus to be taken apart.

A third Nieuport, which started the five-month odyssey with a flight over the Vimy Memorial in April to mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War battle, was damaged in an accident in Saskatchewan Aug. 31.

Although the Vimy pilots had planned to fly through B.C., they elected instead to truck the aircraft through the smoky Rocky Mountain passes in time for two last appearances.

The Nieuports will fly at their home base of Comox, B.C. on Sept. 17 and again in Victoria on Oct. 11.
