MBA students at Wilfrid Laurier University (WLU) in Waterloo, Ontario, are conducting an economic impact study for the Sarnia-Chris Hadfield Airport (CYZR), complementing a strategic planning process for the airport already underway, says the city’s assistant solicitor.
Dan Byskal, in a report to council, said the study is to help determine the airport’s economic and community impact. Byskal said the study will complement an airport strategic plan already in the works, and could be ready by next June.
City officials have also been soliciting input from the Sarnia community about how to improve the travel hub.
The students will conduct the research under the supervision of professors. Previous studies carried out by WLU students were completed for Region of Waterloo International Airport (CYKF) and Toronto-Pearson International Airport (CYYZ).
The city is reimbursing minor travel expenses for the Wilfrid Laurier University study, according to Byskal.
