Hartzell Propeller has recently announced that they have received a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for their two-blade aluminum Scimitar propeller for Cessna 180s and 182s.

The 2.08 metre (82 inch) propeller, plus a polished spinner and the STC documentation, will cost $9,900 (USD). Models included in the STC are Cessna 180s through to 180J, and Cessna 182s through to the 182P, as well as the Cessna F182P.

“This replacement propeller gives Cessna 180 and 182 owners an opportunity to take advantage of Hartzell’s proven reliability and performance advantages,” said Hartzell Executive Vice President JJ Frigge. “Cessna 180 and 182 operators can now get a longer 2,400 hour, six-year TBO and the longest propeller warranty in the business, all the way through first overhaul.”

Hartzell claims that the new propeller will allow for higher climb performance and higher cruise speeds at lower altitudes.

The Piqua, Ohio company has been in the propeller business since its founding in 1917 by Robert Hartzell as the Hartzell Walnut Propeller Company. It was Orville Wright who reportedly suggested to Hartzell that he should make propellers out of walnut trees.
