Cherokee Lands on Quebec Highway
admincopa
A privately registered Piper PA-28 Cherokee 140 landed on Highway 40 in Quebec Thursday morning (April 16). The pilot contacted the Jean-Lesage airport tower and requested permission to put down on the stretch of highway, a few kilometres south of the Jean-Lesage airport (CYQB).
By the time emergency crews arrived on scene, the aircraft had already landed.
As of this writing, there is no word yet on what caused the pilot to make the off-airport landing. Some smoke appears to be coming from the aircraft during its descent, and it appears the propeller was still turning during the rollout.
The landing, a text-book example of how to land on a busy highway, was captured on video and posted on YouTube.
