Some Flight Tests Prior to Written Exams Allowed – TCCA

Transport Canada Civil Aviation announced this week that the requirement for the applicable knowledge (written) test to have been passed before a flight test for either an Instrument Rating, or an initial Flight Instructor Rating can be conducted is being suspended temporarily until January 15, 2021.

The reasoning for the suspension is in recognition that, with TCCA written examination facilities closed due to the pandemic, candidates who have obtained or will obtain, often at great expense, the necessary skills in preparation for their flight test may lose those skills if they are obliged to wait until TCCA reopens their facilities.

The exemption is subject to numerous conditions, all of which are laid out on TCCA’s website.
