Vancouver-based entrepreneur and pilot Teara Fraser will be featured in an upcoming graphic novel entitled ‘Wonderful Women of History’, joining a group of 17 other women that includes the late U.S. Supreme Court judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg, U.S. congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren, tennis player Serena Williams, the late transgender activist Marsha P. Johnson and singer Beyoncé.

Fraser is the founder and CEO of Iskwew Air, offering charter services with a Piper Navajo Chieftain she has dubbed ‘Sweetgrass Warrior’. It is the first enterprise of its type to be founded by an Indigenous woman. Iskwew is Cree for ‘woman’.

“I feel surprised, I feel honoured and a sense of responsibility…” Fraser said in a recent telephone interview with CTV News. “…a sense of responsibility to honour the women that I’m alongside by continuing to dismantle systems of oppression and to stand for truth, justice and equality as the women on that list have done, and as the Wonder Woman character was designed to represent.”

The ‘Wonder Women’ anthology is edited by Laurie Halse Anderson and will include different writers. Fraser’s entry, entitled ‘Teara Fraser: Helping Others Soar’, was written by Traci Sorell and illustrated by Natasha Donovan.

The novel is due out on December 1.
