Courtenay Airpark Closure Opposed

admincopa

The aviation community in Courtenay and Comox, B.C. is rallying behind other community groups to block construction of a new bridge that would close Courtenay Airpark.

The City of Courtenay’s 2018 transportation master plan includes a bridge across the Courtenay River that would be built on the threshold of the runway. A vote is imminent on the plan and the plan is to put all airport tenants and businesses on a month-to-month lease starting when the current lease period ends at the end of 2019.

Opponents to the plan will make a formal presentation to Courtenay Council on Aug. 7 at 4 p.m. to present arguments against the proposal.

In addition to the aviation community, environmental and business groups and the local First Nations are opposing the plan.
