One of two B-29 Superfortresses flying in the world is visiting Ontario in August and if flying in one of the most iconic aircraft is on your bucket list, rides will be available. The Commemorative Air Force’s Fifi, which has been a staple on the air show circuit the past few years, will leave AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin for Peterborough, where it will be doing demo flights and offering rides Aug. 3-5. It goes to North Bay from Aug. 8-12 and Windsor from Aug. 22-26.

Fifi was a bomb target when the CAF recovered it from the China Lake U.S. Navy gun range in 1971. CAF crews got it flying and returned it for restoration to the CAF home base, then in Harlingen, Texas. It flew for 30 years at air shows, in movies and at special events but its long career nearly ended in 2006 when its temperamental engines finally couldn’t be used anymore. A major donor spearheaded a $3 million effort to re-engine the massive aircraft and it returned to the circuit in 2010.
