Canada’s Pete McLeod earned his third second-place finish in a row in the Red Bull Air Race series with a solid performance at the stop in Porto, Portugal last weekend.
McLeod was just .113 seconds behind Czech pilot Martin Sonka in the final four race. He was fastest in qualifying for the fourth race in a row.
McLeod’s consistent performance has vaulted him into second place overall in the series standings with just two races left. Matt Hall, of Australia was third.
Kirby Chambliss, of the U.S., would have placed first if not for a two-second penalty.
McLeod was due for a victory in Porto based on his strong previous performances but he was happy with second.
“It was a close race and I put down a good time. Second is great. I got the points I needed to keep moving forward in the championship,” McLeod said. “It was no secret that I thought I was going to win here. I thought I was able to win the last three races. We’re still happy to smile with second, it’s good.” The next stop is Lausitzring in Germany Sept. 16-17.
